Welcome Maximus Ryan Hoose!
Welcome to the world Max!
Maximus Ryan Hoose was born on December 6, 2011 at 6:33 pm. He weighed 8.1 pounds and measured 21". Yes, his original weight was recorded as 8.6 pounds, but that was corrected later on...silly hospital.
A little background on Max's birth.
Mom and Dad checked into the hospital on Monday, December 5 for induction. Induction started at 7pm and Mom started having contractions right away. After about 24 hours of contractions with labor progressing nicely, Mr. Max just did not want to drop. About an hour after Mom received the epidural, Max's little heart rate dropped and it was decided that a c-section was the best way to get him out safely.
A good decision by the doctors.
When Max was born, it was discovered that the cord was wrapped around his neck twice and there was a knot in the cord. It is refered to as a true knot and this only happens in 1-3% of births. If Max dropped in the womb and I attempted to deliver him he may not have made it :( Thank goodness for the Doctor making the call to take him out when they did, he was so very healthy when he was born!
Mom and Dad spent the next 5 days in the hosiptal getting to know Max and healing from surgery and got to go home on Friday, December 9 just two days before our 1-year wedding aniversary...what a wonderful way to celebrate! Max even let Mom and Dad enjoy a nice lobster and steak dinner on their anniversary by sitting quietly in his swing next to us.
My Mom came to visit for a few days while Ryan went back to work, and thank goodness she came because I can't thank her enough for all the help. I couldn't have made it through the first week without her. She is the best Grammy...sharing the title with Oma of course ;)
Below are some of our favorite pictures so far. I will do my best to keep up with the blog!

Week 40 (that is a full 9 months of pregnancy folks)
Well, today is our due date. Apparently our baby is tardy.
We had a 2-hour week 40 doctor appointment today.
It started off nice with a non-stress fetal monitoring session, which was kinda cool. I got to get all comfy in a nice recliner and sip on some Hi-C to get the baby all riled up. We got to see the baby's heartrate go up and down with movement. All was well.
Then we were off to see the Doctor, who proceeded to try and strip my membranes (look it up), and was not successful :( But she let Ryan find the heartbeat, which was very cool.
Then we got an ultrasound...this is where we found out that the baby is bigger than both Ryan and I thought (since there is a pool going on, I am not going to say what they think it is). I was rather surprised and a little scared...but we are both very happy that everyone thinks the baby looks great.
So, a trip to the mall to walk around may be in order for us this week...if nothing happens, we will be induced on December 5. Ugh.
That is all for now...just trying to get as much sleep as possible cause I hear I won't get any for the next 18 years ;)

It's a....NEW CAR!
Week 39 doctor appointment brought us no "new" news...all is still well with Baby Hoose and Mom.
I am thinking this baby likes where it is...Ryan thinks that THIS is the week he will become a Daddy. Although he thought that last week too!
There IS some exciting news though: we got a new car! Traded in my car for a mini-SUV with AWD which will be much safer for the baby in the winter. Not quite a "Mom-Mobile", but more so than my sporty Lancer!
Check out the pic below...it is a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander SE AWD :)
AND: A BIG Happy Birthday to my Dad today! I was hoping to give him a grandchild for his present...darn!

Not much more room in there...
Baby Hoose has always been very active...which used to be very cute. Every little flutter, kick or bump I would coo and rub my belly with a big smile on my face.
Now, not so much.
Every movement feels like an apendage is going to come bursting out of my stomach! And the hiccups...man, this baby is non-stop movement. I think we may be in for a very active newborn ;)
Last day working in the office today and then I am working from home next week...maybe. I guess it all depends on when Baby Hoose wants to join our family.
Good luck to those still in the baby pool!

Week 38: Like a Kid in a Candy Store
We had our week 38 appointment this morning with no "news" to report of, just very swollen feet and painful, numb hands. Other than that, Baby Hoose and Mom are healthy and doing well.
Ryan, however, is getting very excited. He likes to clap his hands together and with a big grin say: "Alright, let's have this baby!"
The Dr. was amused with Ryan's enthusiasm...she said he reminded her of a kid in a candy store!
"Daddy" seems to think we are having the baby this week or weekend...why, I have no idea. Guess we'll have to wait and see what his predicition brings :)

The first snowfall...and I am locked out.
When you lock yourself out of your house, you tend to feel pretty silly...stupid even.
So when you have to call your husband (who works about 20 minutes away) to ask him to come home to let you in, the last thing you want him to ask you is "How did you do that?".
Like I did it on purpose!
So, I waited in the 30 degree weather this morning trying not to freak out about the 9am Client meeting that was quickly approaching while my hubby was on his way to let me in.
Within 10 minutes my "prince charming" came around the corner to let me in: my hero! Not a big fan of the excessive speeding I am sure he had to do to get there, but really appreciated him leaving work to come and "save" me.
Moral of the story:
Husbands: Never ask your 8.5 month old pregnant wife how she locked herself out (in fact, don't question anything your 8.5 month old pregnant wife does for the next few weeks as her sanity is pretty much nonexistant at this point)
Wives: Make sure there is always a hidden spare key somewhere!

So, how are your private parts today?
You wouldn't believe how many people at work come up and ask me if I am dilated.
I mean, do they realize that they are trying to have a conversation (at work!) about my lady bits?!
(And no, it is not just the women who ask me this).
I really want to respond with: "While we are on the subject, how are your private parts doing today?"
But instead, I smile, provide them with the non-update and waddle down the hallway back to my desk.
At least I am finding some humor in all of this :)

Week 37: Nada...but a good sign from the Chinese
Ryan and I went to our week 37 appointment this morning. The good news is all the hicupping Baby Hoose has been having is a very good sign of a healthy baby!
As far as any labor progress: zip, zero, zilch. Baby is still the down position and dancing up a storm. So all is well.
I did, however, have some yummy (and very spicy) Chinese for lunch yesterday and my fortune was VERY promising; see picture below.
I think I will bring this with me when I go into the hospital and wave it around to the nurses and Dr. telling them we need to live up to this fortune ;)

Practicing not sleeping already!
So, Baby Hoose has decided to help Mom practice what it will be like when he or she comes into the world and doesn't sleep...I was up at 3:45am and just could not get back to sleep!
The day will surely drag a bit for me, and Baby Hoose will be able to get all comfy and take a few naps inside his/her Mommy...but I am not jealous.
Well, kinda :)

Week 36: Excited and Anxious to meet Baby Hoose!
We had our 36 week doctor appointment today and all is well with Mom and Baby Hoose. Baby is in the down position (the Dr. said she could feel the baby's butt--how cute!).
Was hoping for some sort of news about baby's arrival, but I am buttoned up like Fort Knox for now! Doctor appointments are weekly from here on out so maybe next week something will be "happening".
Until next week,
Mama Hoose
